A proud native of Laredo, Texas, Amelia Amaya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Texas A&M International University and a Master’s degree in Music Performance from The Pennsylvania State University. While at Penn State, Amelia served as a Teaching Assistant and completed an additional year to earn a Professional Performance Certificate.

With over seven years of teaching experience in the Laredo area, Mrs. Amaya has built a strong reputation for developing successful and well-rounded music programs. For five years, she served as the Assistant Band Director at the high school level, focusing on woodwind instruction, assisting with the marching band, conducting the Concert Band for UIL competitions, and directing the mariachi program. Following this, Mrs. Amaya was promoted to Head Band Director at a local middle school, where she oversaw the entire music program, conducted the Symphonic Band, co-conducted the Concert Band, and directed the mariachi ensemble.

Throughout her career, she has consistently guided student ensembles to earn superior ratings and the coveted Sweepstakes Award at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contests at both the high school and middle school levels.

Outside of the classroom, she enjoys performing on her flute and piccolo and loves spending time with their husband and their two dogs, Pennie and Oliver.
