Samantha Tartamella
Email: sam.tartamella@gmail.com Flutist Samantha Tartamella gave her solo debut last summer, performing Carl Nielsen’s Concerto for Flute with the Aurora Symphony Orchestra as the winner of their 2017 Young Artist Competition. That same year, she won the Lima Symphony Orchestra’s Junior Young Artist Competition and, alongside the piano trio Pitnix, won the graduate division of Bowling Green State University’s Douglas Wayland Chamber Music Competition. Samantha has attended the Eastern Music Festival, the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, the Brevard Music Festival, and the Bay View Summer Music Festival, performing many canonically important works while there. More notable pieces include principal on Stravinsky’s Firebird (1919) and piccolo on Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. This summer, she will attend the Texas Summer Flute Symposium and perform in masterclasses for French flutist Julien Beaudiment and Italian flutist Rafaelle Trevaiani. She is a finalist in the TSFS Solo Competition. On other occasions, she has performed in masterclass for flutists like Carol Wincec, Nicole Esposito, and Dr. Julee Kim Walker. An enthusiastic educator, Samantha has been the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Wu Family Academy’s flute mentor since 2016. She sits in on rehearsals, leads sectionals, and performs alongside student ensembles, providing in-depth instruction on ensemble playing that middle school and high school students would not otherwise receive. Samantha will graduate with a Bachelor in Music Performance from Bowling Green State University in May, where she studies with Dr. Conor Nelson. This fall, she will begin her Master of Music Performance at the University of Texas at Austin where she will study with Marianne Gedigian. |
